Just got my SS 5-20X50, I took advantage of the sale. I'm impressed with the overall look of this scope, it's heavy and the turrets look beefy. After looking through the scope and working the magnifications I'm very pleased with the scopes brightness and clarity. But here's where I see a problem! the turrets are extremely hard to turn and the worst is the side focus, I can't hardly turn it up or down. Also there are no audible clicks that I can tell. The power ring is stiff but thats workable. I own a SS 10X42M that scope has non of these issues. Can anybody comment on this issue, has anybody received one of these scopes with the same problem???

Same thing here. Par for the course on these scope. I'm not sure why.

You might try a bit of grease on the O-rings that reside underneath the turret caps. There's nothing you can do about the parallax and power ring except shoot it.

Just wait until you're shooting the scope in cold weather.

There are no clicks on the side focus. Mine is also stiff but it loosened up. You should hear and feel clicks on the elevation and wind age knob. Stiff is a good thing on those 2. You want to know you moved them and make sure they don't move on there own.

A cat tail would solve your power ring issues.

For the most part just move the adgustments up and down for a while. They feel better with use.

It will work in. Mine was very stiff also I just cranked the turrets up and down several times and it is much better now. As far as the power ring I have a cattail on it which dramatically helps.

I'm trying to work them a little and see if that helps. I thought they were sending a reticle chart with the scope, I got no literature with at all and no decal, that pisses me off HA HA HA

So you guys think this is normal, has anybody called them about this??

I was wondering this myself. My first SSHD came with a nice, large, gloss card of the reticles subtensions. There was no literature with the scope, but nothing came with my newest SSHD.

As far as the mag ring, turrets, and parallax adjustment ring- they will all relax a bit after some twisting and mallet therapy

"Mallet Therapy"? Gotta remember that one! LOL! It's pretty normal I guess mine where tight also, some manual intervention crankin' on the knobs and all was well. I like the tighter parallax adjustment due to it staying put when shooting multiple shots at same distance. My sons bushnell you had to keep adjusting the dang thing after almost every shot. He doesn't mind it but that would drive me nuts.

Re: Problem with SWFA SS 5-20X50

As has been stated before, run the turrets up and down a few time to distribute the grease and they will sharpen up nicely. The side focus was tight as he'll on my first one but it loosen up a lot after I cranked on it several times. It would be nice if they had some kind of mini cattail for the focus.

Re: Problem with SWFA SS 5-20X50

i thought the turrets on mine were tight to begin with, too, so i worked them through their range of travel many times, but honestly i don't know if it loosened them up, or i just got used to them. either way, i wouldn't change them now- especially after stowing the scope in my gunrunner a few dozen times without any unwanted adjustments!

Re: Problem with SWFA SS 5-20X50

I didn't read all the replies, so if this has already been suggested, sorry. That said, when you mount it to a rifle the adjustments will be a bit easier than just holding the scope in your hands. As also suggested, run them through the paces and they will break in a little bit.
