Has anyone experienced problems with a newer model eotech?
I had a 511 on my old AR, and it was flawless for over 2 years, but it went with the rifle when I sold it. I bought a 512 about 8 months ago, and two months ago, one of the contacts went out. I contacted EOTech and they shipped a replacement part for free. All is well. Well, today at the range, two other guys had theirs go out, one was a 511 and the other an XPS. Both are less than 4 months old. It seems to me that it's beyond coincidence when there are 3 within the span of about 3 months that have either similar problems or malfunction for whatever reason. I don't know if it's a quality control issue or if it is poor product design or what.

Re: Problems with eotech!

Make sure there are two springs in the bottom of the battery compartment. If one battery sits higher than the other, that's the problem. The replacement part is about $20.

Re: Problems with eotech!

Ddputy Dawg...The contacts I'm referring to are the metal connections at the body of the unit.
Dar Dar...I checked the springs first, as my 511 springs had become compressed and weren't making the proper connection. I stretched them back and they worked fine. These springs were still gtg and stuck up above the rubber part.

Re: Problems with eotech!

We've had three EoTechs take a shit on us this year. I've gone back to an Aimpoint. EoTech is very reasonable in their repair and customer service but those don't help if you need to shoot and your zero is off 10MOA or the internal screen has come loose and is bouncing around inside the unit.

Re: Problems with eotech!

I got issued a new AA EO tech and it didn't seem to respond well to adjustments input to it.

I needed to come right about 2" at 50 meters and we adjusted it several times the required amount before it responded. Later in a qualification, it seemed like the windage popped over some more.

I've had good experiences with EO tech, but the poor response of the windage on this unit has me not really confident about it.

Re: Problems with eotech!

I hate to hear about your problems with your EOTech. I have two and so far I have never had a problem with either. I hope they make it right for your friends.

I have owned many eotechs and still like the ease of use display. I had issues with aimpoints in the past so I decided to give the M4 a test with the battery life and all its great features. The new aimpoint line is hard to beat. The battery life is sweet, I have had the battery on for two years now and still glowing bright.

Re: Problems with eotech!

My 552 I've had on my M4 since 2005 has run 100%. I have it zeroed perfect, and it's stayed that way all these years. Probably put 5,000 rounds thru the gun and mines never had a single issue. I've changed the AA batteries probably 3 times since I got it.

+1! I have seen to many Eotechs go down in training classes, I would not bet my life on one.

Re: Problems with eotech!

EO has had problems with battery contact and loss of adjustment issues that go back at least 7-8 years. I gave up trying to keep up with which variant has which issues, but its a problem that they have not solved.

Aimpoint= install battery, zero, leave on, repeat in two years, minus the zero part.

Re: Problems with eotech!

I agree with the EOTech having the battery contact issue, however it is hit or miss. some have issues, some dont. I have read a ton of problem stories but I have never seen one take a shit in person, mine or someone else. I have had the same 552 for several years now, its been on everything from an M4 to a Mk48 and have had ZERO issues. Now Ive got it on my SOCOM II but I would prefer something else when the money is right.

Re: Problems with eotech!

They had problems with large batches military orders as well. I think the issue was contacts. Don't know if this was before or after they were purchased by L-3 and if L-3 made them change suppliers. Very cool sights but if you don't have confidence who cares? KISS principle with Aimpoint IMHO.
