It seems every time I am intrested in getting another scope the deals like Midway offering $50 off never include what I am intrested in. For example this week for Labor day everything but a few items including Nightforce scopes are discounted.

So I am curious as to why... It must have to do with profit margins on these highend items. Can someone shed some light on this for me please? Also, most sites have the same price for these items. There never seems to be a "deal" out there for glass.

By the way what is the best price for a new NXS 8x32 x 56 that can be found?

Re: Profit on Scopes

Nightforce scopes are NEVER an item that the MidwayUSA discount codes cover. It likely has to do with the MAP (minimum advertised pricing) program that all NF dealers must subscribe to as a part of the agreement to carry their products. Same thing with not seeing "sales" on NF products.

Your best sources for NF scopes around will likely be through some of the folks that regularly post here on the Hide such as Alex at EuroOptics.

i believe the MAP price is 5% off MSRP, that's what I've been told anyhow. 475 is right on the mark. You won't find them any cheaper than the MAP price because NF will drop them as a distributer if they do.

Midway had a sale on Nightforce scopes only once that I can remember. It was in one of there monthly flyers. Wasn't much, $100 off I think. May have been leftovers from the previous year or something, don't know.

Re: Profit on Scopes

What you are asking is a marketing/merchandising question. Midway has had some NF scopes on sale but not usually because they have their relatively small, but high quality, market figured out. It would seem like that much money for a scope would be very lucrative, but it's maybe not as much as you think. They, and other high end scope builders put a lot of time into these scopes and that costs. A big distributorship costs as well as shelf/wwarehouse space. So they limit the product and keep the price high. Which is a good way to market your product as long as you keep quality high.

Big box stores are the anti-thesis to this philosophy. They stock a ton of scopes and don't make much per scope. But they sell a bunch more scopes. And, if they fail you replace it with one that does. The cost of making the scope goes way down and the replacement is just a number in the big pool of costs vs. margins.

So they give a bit of a break on the ones from the previous year which aren't selling as hot as this years scopes. A big break on costs would indicate to consumers that quality may be down. That is a marketing no-no.

Re: Profit on Scopes

Just buy a good used scope from the For Sale Section! That's where I've gotten all but one of my scopes and prices are usually pretty good! When you get quality items like NF, USO, S&B, even used they are GREAT scopes!

Re: Profit on Scopes

Don't like buying used stuff. Things that I purchase I plan on keeping and don't mind a little more money to make sure that things are right from the start. Been burned too many times...
