I've been researching a lot and they are they only barrel maker I've come across that provides an extended gas tube with the barrel to fit which makes total sense to me. Go beyond typical rifle length and move the point further out to do the same thing as if you went from carbine to mid length like I did on my 15 with an Odin works mid length on my M4. The thing is companies like Criterion and Wilson Combat don't seem to sell or mention longer tubes on for example 22 or 24 inch barrels. Am I thinking this through properly or missing something? Rifle is standard longer. Right?Other companies also do extended gas systems, no matter which barrel you get you want the longest gas system you can get.
I gotta say though there is something to their claim about heat buildup. I have no science to back it up but I find it a pleasant feature on an AR. Rapid fire is fun regardless of use. It also looks sick on a black rifle or any rifle...Biggest problem with Proof is finding an all steel right now as they are on a 5 to 8 week backorder so far everywhere I've looked. I suspect that's because a 22 inch 6.5 carbon is 3.0 pounds. All steel is 3 lbs 14 ounces. Really hard to justify an additional $300 for 14 ounces!
Going to call Wilson tomorrow. I like that super sniper especially since they will coat it black. They sell them in 22 and 24 but I may be looking and not seeing an extended gas tube. I wonder if they place it at rifle length. I know I can go adjustable. Just looking to gas it right to eliminate premature part wear.
Mine have fit just fine under a DPMS low with SLR adjustable gas block. .925 and .875.Yes. They are still very much being considered. I think Proof mostly just created a longer than rifle gas system. Now to find out if true and if any of these other makers have comperable solutions. No offense Charnicus but not real interested in rapid 6.5 fire. Looking for a hyper accurate setup. What about blocks? I may need a low profile - fits in a 1.3 ID handguard -adjustable. Looks like there is a bit more room if my calipers not lying but not a ton. May be a tall order. No pun intended. This is why the CAMGAS is so appealing as an alternative.
I have a 20" Proof steel barrel in 6.5 with the camgas system. I've been chasing a problem with it not locking back on an empty mag.Just looking for some feedback on anyone who has tried one go Proof's gas barrels with the CAMGAS system. Is it something that should really be considered or not earth shattering? Thanks.
