What are the guidelines for determining an individuals proper length of pull?

Do most people go with the stock length of pull on a AICS? Or do you add or subtract butt spacers? How do you judge? Thanks

Re: Proper length of pull? AICS?

Whatever is most comfortable to you.

A good place to start is to hold the stock with your hand on the grip and the butt should be nestled in the crook of your elbow.

I happen to run 1 thick spacer + butt pad.

Re: Proper length of pull? AICS?

Depends on your proportions (height, weight, build, arm length, neck length) and if you wear corrective lenses. I'm 6'4", 185 lbs, with long arms, long neck, and wear glasses. My rifle has a 14.5" LOP, with the scope mounted as far forward as I can get it.

Correct setup is one where you can take your shooting position with your eyes closed, open your eyes and have a proper sight alignment.

Adjustable stocks are great for fitting the rifle to YOU, not the other way around.

Proper LOP also depends on your shooting position: standing, sitting, prone w/ bipod, prone w/ sling. Prone w/ bipod is a little more flexible: you will have a range that will work well for you. Sling shooters have a lot of information on LOP selection, but I think it's not as critical with a bipod.
