Prototype Leupold Ultra 16X-M1

After 40 yrs in the military I found something I cannot positively identify.
I have come to believe it is a prototype sent from Leupold to the military for testing. Any and all help is appreciated.

First thing is the serial # begins with the year of manufacture. So its a 1985 build.

I have L&S catalogues going back to 1986 on the Ultra lineup. Your scope changed part numbers, its listed as a model 41118 with the 16X/with duplex reticle.
