Proven loads for the Savage 5R barrel?

I just got my 10 fcp HS 5R and was going to work up a load for out to 500 yards starting with a few different brands around the same weight, starting with a SMK, a Berger, and a Scenar. I was going to go with around the 168g weight since I've heard more than a few folks liking the 168 SMK for this range.

What are yall's preferred loads with these bullets?

Re: Proven loads for the Savage 5R barrel?

+1 on the 175gr SMKs and the 155gr Scenars!! Both great bullets that will perform at extended ranges. If 500yds is your MAX range and you don't anticipate going too far beyond that, then the 168gr SMKs will be fine, but I wouldn't bother because if you get a good load with the 155gr Scenars or the 175gr SMKs, then you are good for all ranges the .308 is capable of reaching accurately and effectively.

Also, you should probably check out the reloading section and see if you can fine some specific load data.

Good luck!!

Yeah, this was supposed to be in the reloading section. Apparently I was too tired to notice I posted it in the wrong place. Thanks for the heads up. Maybe a mod can move it.

I found a few specific loads, which is what I'm after here; bullet weights, powder type and charge, brass, primer, and OAL, since I already have the pill brands I wanted to try.

Eventually I will want to move beyond 500, eventually to 1000, but wanted to work up a few different loads for different ranges 0-500 and 500-1000 and some for hunting at each of these ranges and some for competitions at each of these ranges in fun little matches at the range I go to.

I'm looking for something like this. This is one of AXEMAN's loads:

168 SMKs
IMR 3031 @ 42g
Winchester brass
CCI 200 primers
@ AOL of 2.807

Thanks ya'll
