PSL vs M76?

Re: PSL vs M76?

Well, they both have their appeal, so I won't come out and say one is better than the other. Some of the pros and cons may not be important to you, so your opinion may be different then mine.

Some pros of the PSL: Satisfactory accuracy for a designated marksman rifle (I've seen 3/4 MOA and I've seen 1.5 MOA first hand). 7.62x54R is relatively inexpensive and easy to come by. Thumb hole stock is attractive and comfortable. Slightly cheaper than the M76. Nice muzzle brake (can swap it if you get one that is pinned on).

PSL cons: Stamped receiver (reinforced with trunnions). Sub-par climate conditions have greater effect on action. More common than the M76. Wood quality is low. Most have altered or removed bayonet lug.

M76 pros: Satifactory accuracy as well, however, I can reach out a little further with the M76 vs the PSL. Milled receiver. Adjustable gas port for different climate conditions. Nice quality wood, most I have seen have a nice grain as well. Barrel is robust and has a nice birdcage muzzle brake. ZRAK scope is decent quality (can still use iron sights while mounted). Less common than the PSL. Seperate stock and pistol grip. Bayonet lug intact and very good quality bayonet.

M76 cons: more expensive than the PSL. Ammo is not as cheap and might be a little harder to find (although, it's not HARD to find, this is a relative comparison). Half a pound heavier. Harder to find a numbers matching M76, although I haven't seen a performance difference anyway.

This is no way an all inclusive list and is based on my personal opinions. I enjoy both rifles very much, but in the end, if I had to decide I would choose the M76. Hope I helped in some way and I wish you the best of luck in finding your rifle!
