Just bought a new SPS Tactical 308 and bought a PSS HS Precision stock, the side of the trigger assembly hits the inside of the stock and the barreled action will not slide back far enough for the action screws to line up by about 1/8", it this common?

Re: PSS stock on a SPS Tactical won't fit

That is a common issue with the PSS stock and Rem 700 actions using the X-Mark trigger. Nothing that a little Dremal tool time on the stock to make clearance for the trigger can't fix. An even better solution would be to swap out that trigger for an older 700 trigger assembly.

+1..........made me almost hate remington

I have my share of remington M700 and i don't want to bash.....
but there are only three reasons why the new triggers are just enough bigger in one tiny area to make using older stocks difficult:

1. the company couldn't figure it out
2. they didn't care
3. they actually wanted to make it difficult to steer aftermarket selections

as a customer, I don't find any of those options pleasant to think about. Its not the end of the world. No one decision ever is. But, part of the brand loyalty towards remington is the aftermarket market and the fact that I have systems of parts that should be interchangeable with new rifles. If that is gone anyway...............sako, savage, cz or the custom actions start looking a lot more appealing. These are the kinds of things R&D guys and marketing guys get paid lots of money to figure out. They are also the tiny little decisions that add up over twenty years and lead to problems one day. Wonder if Chevy or Chrysler would want some of their "little" QC and marketing decisions from the 90's back......

Re: PSS stock on a SPS Tactical won't fit

The easiest, and arguably best option is to DITCH the @#$%^&* X-Mark Pro trigger and go back to the [better] standard Remington trigger. When the X-Mark trigger is considered by many to be inferior to the older Remington triggers, switching to an old model is an even better option so that you won't have to trim/cut up a perfectly good stock.

Re: PSS stock on a SPS Tactical won't fit

The newer aftermarket H-S's and, of course, factory Rem PSS stocks by H-S are made to clear the x-mark, so it's not option 1-2 or 3. The aftermarket company Rem is most associated with (H-S)has updated their design to accomodate the new style trigger and most non-chassis designs (Manners,McM,etc.)are to be bedded, so what's the extra 1 minute with the dremel? As far as trimming/cutting up a perfectly good stock...it is just a small relief cut which is neither visible when assembled nor weakens the stock. Details and photos are available on this and other sites. If one is competent enough to switch out a trigger one can do this mod in just a few minutes. AG
