I need a new scope for my 6.5. I am not a PRS shooter or anything like that. I shoot with friends for fun. We have a 800 yard range close, so I want a scope that will dial out that far and return to zero. Will this optic do well for my intended use? I don't want to spend more than 1k but I can if I need to. I also don't want a optic that pisses me off every time I use it.
Thanks

Thanks for the replies. Like I said " I don't mind spending more if I NEED to". But if you think the PST will " not piss me off" I will probably go that route and save the extra money for something else.

For a little more you could get a NF and not have to worry about it. Why chance it?

That Vortex may very well work perfectly fine but they haven't been out long and already hear of several people having issues with tracking. The Gen 2's look better than the Gen 1 but until they up the quality of the guts I'll pay a little more for Nightforce quality.

I have 3 gen 1 pst scopes. All FFP, 5-24-50 FFP.
All three track fine out to 1,000 yards and beyond. All three return to zero every time. One of these has close to 10k rounds under it while mounted on three different rifles from 6.5 to 45-70. with hundreds of dial up and return to zero. There has not been one single negative issue with any of the 3 scopes. The lifetime no fault warranty fixes or replaces it no matter who or what killed it.
That - is really hard to beat for the price.

I just picked up a gen ii 2-10x32.....it tracked fine on my tests with no reticle cant. Haven't shot with it yet but initial impression is a good one. Not anticipating any issues from what I saw, but we will see.

I had a 3-15x44 SFP, I tested 2 different brand new out of the box examples and they exhibited reticle shift with elevation travel, ending at about a 3/4 moa shift with 25 MOA of adjustment. It just so happens that this would mostly wipe away your spin drift because of the direction of the reticle shift. This was only identified with fixed mounting the scope in a contraption that I made. Vortex never ever seems to just nail it and get it exactly right, buy a nightforce. its proven, its no BS and the last thing you want is scope problems. Its frustrating as hell.

Just curious, Did vortex fix the issue or see the same variance with your scopes?

I was at the range a few months ago and the guy next to me with a 1st gen Pst said he had to send it back to be fixed 3 times because the reticle took a shit. Whatever that means.....? But he was shooting a 338L.

vortex was willing to fix it but they told me it would be about a 3 week turn around. I had a hunt planned I needed the scope for. so after thinking about it. I thought why not just return it to the store. So I did and got another of the same model scope. I checked it and it did exactly the same reticle shift as before, The new scope was not quite as bad. I don't know why people put up with scope problems. your time money and hassle is frankly worth alot more. So I just bought another nightforce after returning the PST 2, I put the nightforce in my fixture and it had no reticle shift and tracked perfectly. Simply put its just how this particular type of scope operates. Its likely something your average guy will never ever detect.

Right on, vortex is usually pretty good at fixing things like this....just might take some time. I remember a while back the early production gen 1 razors ran a bit fast, they updated the turrets and had them out for replacement really quick.

a hunt is not a good way to find out your scope isn't tracking right.

i test all my optics before mounting them. So far, my gen ii 2-10 doesn't exhibit your findings. See what happens after some recoil.
