PTG bolt for R700 to help primary extraction?

The angled part of the bolt handle that touches the receiver during primary extraction looks a bit different on a PTG bolt when compared to a stock Remington 700 bolt. It looks longer or broader for lack of a better word.

Does it help with primary extraction, or is that entirely a function of the angled section machined into the receiver?

I shoot F-Class, and I get poor primary extraction towards the end of a match. I'm not sure if it's heat related or if the chamber is getting dirty and the brass is sticking a bit. Sometimes it takes a couple tries/small movements of the bolt handle at the top of the opening rotation to get it to "let go."

It would be nice to fix this with a PTG bolt during rebarreling without going whole hog and buying a Defiance.

Thanks

NickNick,

It would most likely help the bolt and action extraction. What is important is that the bolt handle is as far forward (with a little clearance of course) to the front of the bolt handle cutout of the action. This maximizes the extraction. I would most likely get in touch with Nate Dagley at Straight Shot Gunsmithing and have him just install a PTG handle on your existing bolt. The PTG one piece is most likely not going to drop right in. Not only does the bolt diameter need to be correct, the bolt nose diameter is going to be too large for your current barrel. Most importantly, the relationship from the recoil lug to the bolt face and front bolt lug are different on the factory Remington 700 bolt and the PTG. PTG bolts are great for a rebarrel, but they are not a drop in with out modifying the barrel and or bolt.
