Looking to buy my 1st thermal scope. Lots of info on the web on these scopes. Anyone purchased or used Pulsar Thermion XQ38 Thermal Riflescope?

Likes? Dislikes? Good entry scope ?

Should I go with a higher end scope? XM50?

It will be used for hunting varmints at night in Maine.

In no way other than native magnification is the XM50 a higher end scope than the XQ38. The XQ38 will have better resolution as it is a 384 unit and not a 320 like the XM lines.

Only time 5.5 native magnification really outshines the 3.5 is if you are routinely shooting at coyotes/Bobcats past 100 yards. If hog hunting, the XQ38 is definitely the best bet. Every time you double your magnification, you cut your resolution in half...but with PIP, its really not an issue.
