Re: Put together another Savage today

Very nice, I'm going over to a friends house tomorrow who has a .308 headspace gauge and installing my 20" heavy barrel. Can't wait to see how my own Savage project turns out.

Re: Put together another Savage today

Awsome looking rifle. I love the stock too. I wanted one of those but they weren't yet available in the 4.4" centerfeed yet.

I just built one myself using a Stevens action and a Shilen 1-8" twist 7mm-08. I haven't gotten up the nerve to krylon it yet.

Re: Put together another Savage today

gun shot great with American Eagle 168 grain; only issue is my scope is drifting, its an older Shepherd I saw the reticle shift after most every shot, its a dual reticle so you can see the shift between them, i am sending it into shepherd for repair, will try another scope later

Re: Put together another Savage today

My dark side will be stronger soon as I expect my VA check to hit in about the next 30 days. Then it's time for a walter barrel of my own. You can see what my rifle can do in my sig but that is with hand loads. If yours is shooting that tight with box ammo I could make that thing shoot a .5" group at 200 with ease with some hand loads.

Good luck,

The force is strong with this one...

Re: Put together another Savage today

Nice work on your current project. I would like to build such a rifle, but would like to start with a 12 BVSS. Do you know if the B&C stocks will fit the 12 series? Looking at Midway's website, they only list them for the 10 and 110 series.

I want to put together a .243 with stainless action, if possible.

Re: Put together another Savage today

the only difference and i will need to check this, is the finish. 12 is the number for stainless. 10 is tactical, 14 is blued, 16 is also stainless. 11 is blued too, but they are all small shank savage receivers. will fit any savage stock for a 10

Re: Put together another Savage today

10 and 12 are the same action, my model 12 was blue, the key is the SS, that is the stainless action and barrel.
My accutrigger would go down to about 1.5 lbs, lighter than the standard trigger but not as light as the target, the model 10 FP series also go down to 1.5.
My model 12 came with a nice, heavy recoil lug so I did not replace it when changing barrels, it was a nicer lug than what my Dad got on his Model 10 hunting rifle.

Re: Put together another Savage today

you know its like they had a crack baby over there whipping up the designation numbers and mix matching stuff, lol. i just clicked on one model each but you think they would try to make the designations consistant and not have different finishes in a model line. half the 12 line is stainless with no ss in the designation. very creative people, lol
