After several Emails to Cooper Arms, I find that although I can 'rebarrel' and get my 8 twist .224 , I can't get my present 14 twist barrel back!! Legal reasons apparently...So, Do any or all of the better barrel makers make one to fit a Cooper? Or would I be better off to find something used n go from there?

You can buy a barrel blank from any of the quality barrel makers out there and then send your cooper off to pretty much any good smith and they will be able to chamber and install the barrel for you. You do NOT have to deal just with Cooper.

Take care,Stan

will second that.

And pay the money to get a good name smith to do the work, dont go cheap you will regret it, Robert at RWS in my top pick.

Might Call hart barrels last time I talked with them, you send them the action they you pick the size, they thread, chamber and lap the lugs for around $650

So what is Cooper going to charge you to install another Wilson blank? Bet you can get a name brand blank installed for about the same money from another smith??? Maybe Dan needs more money for upcoming election contributions

Thot they canned him for that. $415.00 for a rebarrel you saying they use Wilson? if so, wilson who? (sorry, fng) I have a 14 twist on it now,and I've thrown up to 62 grainers out 500 yards without keyholing, but now I want to reach farther out. ;-)
They sell a whole rifle for around $1500, but I'm not wanting to spend that much or even close to that much on a .223.

Re: putting/getting a new barrel for a Cooper

I was told by a Cooper dealer and a Wilson dealer that Cooper's barrels are Wilson? Not really a bad deal as their barrels have a great rep for accuracy. Rock River Arms uses their barrels on stainless uppers. The discontinued Winchester Heavy Varmint used Wilson and many were excellent shooters. Guessing the Winchester Coyote probably had them also. Other AR upper manufacturers use them as well.

With a new Krieger, Bartlein, Brux, Rock etc tube costing roughly $300 you wouldn't pay alot more over the $415 to have the best blank installed. Just a thought as I would trust most of the well known builders that frequent this site to be more meticulous with machining/chambering than someone at Cooper installing a mass produced blank.

As for Danno he was asked by shareholders to "step down" as CEO but my guess is he just removed his name tag from the desk or office door for a 'cooling off' period???? I know that the 218 Bee I always wanted will never happen because I am a stubborn old bastard and he is a blantant liar!!!!!
