Night Vision pvs 26 vs pvs 30

The major difference is the battery compartment, the 26 is two AA, the 30 is a single CR123. The 30 is available with WP tubes, though at a much higher cost. Current 'retail' to the G is just North of 12k. Optically, I can't tell the difference. Both work well in the 18-20x range, both are rated to 50 BMG, both hold boresight < 1 MOA and are pretty much rock-solid performers.

I think the reach to the focusing ring is a bit long and somewhat awkward. I still find it odd that the power switch turns on to max gain and rotates to lower the gain. Performance wise, it's hard to complain about any of the big three, PVS-27, PVS-26/30, CNVD-LR.

The CNVD is somewhat more user friendly, the controls are easier to reach in position and it's LIGHT.
The 27 lens is HUGE, and performs somewhat better under really poor conditions, but it HEAVY, unbalances the rifle badly and the focus control is tiny and poorly located.
The 26/30 is also heavy, but not as off balance as the 27. Big focus ring with knobs, but ends up WAY forward.

I've got all three, anyone of them works fine for 800-1000, 400 is a chip shot. Nice to have a high power illumination available, but the performance is pretty awesome on all three.
