Been shooting 139 scenars for awhile and want to try the 140 VLD. However, I've read that secant ogive bullets, such as the VLD, don't like to jump. I already told the smith to get me to the lands at about 2.25....which is about a .01 jump for a 2.8 OAL with a 139 scenar. However, I think this would be a considerable jump for a 140 VLD.

Gunsmith should be chambering the blank I sent this week. Need a little help on what to tell him prior. I cannot find the length to ogive for a 140 VLD, but from a lot of reading/googling I estimate its about a .06" difference, or a .07 jump.

Anyone have some more exact numbers? When does the 140 VLD start misbehaving?

I can't give you the exact number, but in a rifle of mine that is chambered .005 under SAAMI, the VLDs did not shoot good at all, when the SMK would have no jump at the same OAL. This said, for me, the VLD did not shoot good when seated to the same length as a SMK.
