I already have an AI AX but I want a modern straight-pull very badly so if the price point is right I may have one of the first few in my safe.

I have used Blaser R8's extensively in all conditions. Extremely reliable and accurate. If this rifle is based on the straight pull / collet bolthead system similar to the Blaser it could be great.

Easy caliber changes From .223 to the big Jeffreys, with consistent return to zero.

Hoping the quality is similar.

Also, notice that the straight pull system can be inherently shorter overall with the trigger assembly partially under the bolt system. On the Blaser the OAL is about 3" shorter than a conventional bolt action.

It appears that this new entry also has that shorter OAL benefit.

under $3k would be a game changer, especially for a chassis like that. Is that Kevin Boland from Knights?

Was actually starting to look at the AIAX, Desert Tech as well as the Barrett MRAD for a switch barrel setup but couldn't substantiate the cost. If this is $3k or under, and isn't cutting corners compared to those that are $5k+, I'd be very interested.

Not a straight pull bolt per their IG account, but a "short throw" bolt. Interesting design, kinda looks like a AK receiver. Following

He added another photo today. 45 degree bolt throw, 5 lug, claiming under 6lbs, and will have 308 bolt face, and magnum bolt face options (short action only currently). So this might be pretty interesting to see where it goes.

As with 99% of "new" offerings on the market, they are copies of a existing design with some flair. With the Merkel as an existing design, what are its strengths and weaknesses?

A couple of articles on the KR1 talk about the action - called a turn bolt, and the Merkel has 6 lugs and supports quick barrel change - so why likely Q went with it.

So sounds like it uses SR25 pattern magazines. Anyone know the max COAL that these allow?

Also just for info, some of the instagram comments from 'Q' mentioned that it uses an AR15 style barrel extension. Should be very interesting to see, can't wait!

I'm really interested in the lockup too. If they use a barrel extension I wonder how hard it will be to get extra barrel extension. I know an AR15 bolt only rotates 22.5 degrees so I'm assuming this uses a different extension.

I wonder does this take a standard AR trigger ... not a flat trigger fan.

No, new trigger design. Striker, not hammer fired like the AR. Big, heavy hammer is not good for precision shooting.

Can you comment on the apparent similarities of the Merkel kr1 to the Fix.

I believe the Merkel is a straight pull? If so, that's probably the primary difference. The Merkel and Blaser appear to have no upper receiver or detectable mag? I don't really know much about either. The shroud on the Merkel and on The Fix look very similar, from an industrial design perspective. Anything specific that you are looking for?

***Sorry, just took a closer look. The Merkel appears to be a tradition bolt-action.
