Quality optic with short parallax focus?

So far I have only seen the 3-20S&B able to have short focus and quality optics.

I have a 3.5-15 NSX on my rifle by the 50m paralax kills it for me.

Is there anything in the 500-1500 dollar range that has a 25m paralax, mil/mil, and decent optical clarity?

I know Falcon is a choice but I have had 3 of them and just dont like the optical quality.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Quality optic with short parallax focus?

The Bushnell 3-12 x 44 FFP is mil/mil and has 10Y parallax capability. I run one on my 10/22 and one on my precharged air rifle. I used to have the standard mildot versions but sold them and switched to the G2DMR reticle. Good optical quality and they track well. The eyebox gets a little tight at 11-12X but as long as your cheekweld is consistent you won't have a problem.

I don't own an HDMR but have used one; it only had 50Y parallax. You could get by on lower magnifications inside of 50Y but it wasn't perfect.

As you said, there's a big "no mans land" of scopes with 10-25Y capability. It seems lots of the lower-tier stuff like Centerpoint, Leapers, etc, and some of the higher-lower end stuff like Hawke all have 10Y or 25Y parallax capability but as soon as you get to the 500-1500 dollar price range and some actual decent scope choices they're all 50Y parallax. It isn't until you get to up the $3K stuff like S&B do you see 10Y or 25Y parallax come back.

I settled on the Bushnell 3-12 FFP for the 10/22 and air rifle because I wanted mil/mil, FFP, and 10Y parallax capability and it was the best scope I could find that offered all those features that wasn't $3K. "Settled" might be too strong of a word; the 3-12 FFP is still a good scope IMO. Other than the tight eyebox at 11-12X and a slight fisheye effect to the image down around 3-4X it's hard to find anything else to criticize.

The SWFA 5-20x comes closer with 35 yards, but still not 10y

You're right Steve-- I forgot all about March. I believe most of the March lineup has 10Y parallax capability.

That's no guarantee either. I have several 5-20HDs; the first shipment that came from SWFA has parallax knobs marked down to 35Y but the second shipment that came in is marked down to 50Y. I'm not sure why they made the change but it seems only the first batch has the 35Y parallax.

They're not true 25Y parallax as you have to start turning the magnification down inside of about 40Y to maintain a reasonably clear and in-focus sight picture. I'm quite happy with them but they don't have true 25Y parallax capability as the OP is looking for.

I might try the Bushnell 4-14, or wait... I dont feel like i should have to buy a 2-3k dollar scope for a rimfire. That's kinda ridiculous. Plus I lose the hunting ability for close range standing shots if i have a 3 pound scope on my gun.

Re: Quality optic with short parallax focus?

No one has mentioned any Sightron scopes. Absolutely outstanding glass for the money. The SIII series has side focus down to 40 yards I believe, and the SII and SII Big Sky have an A/O that goes down to 10 yards.

I just mounted a SIII 6-24 on my new Kidd Supergrade. It is fantactic glass.

Re: Quality optic with short parallax focus?

You might take a look at the Leupold 6.5-20 40mm EFR AO series. They focus down to 50 feet, are nice and clear and not too heavy. Turrets and reticle are MOA (1/4 MOA clicks) which may or may not be a problem for you.

I've got one on my practice rifle (Anschutz 64MPR) and it works well from short distance to 200yds. I got mine from Champion's shooters supply: they're currently running a significant discount on these.

Hope this helps
