Hey guys,

My apologies in advance if this isn’t a high-speed question, I’m currently at medium speed/some drag.

I recently bought a R700 that has had some work done by GAP. In this build, it appears that they installed a Templar lug in place of the factory lug. My question is, how do I go-about stock/chassis shopping? I tried dropping the barreled action into a B&C stock just to see and obviously the Templar lug is larger than standard and it wouldn’t fit.

I’m still on the fence about chassis vs stock, but now I’m realizing it may not be as simple as buying a R700 SA stock/chassis. Any help would be appreciated.

Some companies such as MDT list the thickness of lug that will fit and are designed with larger lugs in mind.

If you have any doubt just call the manufacturer in question and I'm certain they can advise on if your lug will fit.

Alternatively there are so many people here that someone has probably run across the combination you are looking at and can tell you if it works together.

You can always remove some material for the lug as well.

How thick is the lug in your rifle?

Simple enough to open up the slot for the recoil lug as needed, and epoxy bed for precise fitment- regardless of type of stock/chassis.
Easiest done on the mill, but a rotary tool will do the job in a heartbeat if you DIY.

On this note - open the stock in FRONT of the lug, not behind the lug, otherwise the action screws won’t line up properly.

The build sheet I received says .312. I have not mic’d it myself though. I have no reason to think otherwise with the credibility that GAP has.

It would make sense to remove a small amount of material on a fiberglass stock to do this. I do plan to bed. I realize that this can also be done with any chassis but my goal would be a whiskey 3 or MPA. Something about removing material from a higher end chassis like that is like nails on a chalkboard for me.
