Re: Question about Siera bullets

I think I have this right, if not I'm sure someone will jump in. 155 HPBT MatchKing (#2155) was original Sierra design and it was used for Palma matches where the rules called for a 156 grain or less bullet. A few years back they came out with a newer (improved?) design, the 155 HPBT Palma MatchKing (#2156). Improved with ? because I've never tried either but seems most I know that shoot the 155 are shooting the newer (#2156) version.

Re: Question about Siera bullets

BC is different. 155 SMK is 0.450. 155 Palma is 0.504. Palma is longer with earlier ogive.

Do a search & you should find a lot of info re: 155 vs 175.

155 Palma is comparable to Scenar. If you can get them for the same price, 155 Palma is simply a better bullet. If you shoot over 600 yards, demo the Palma vs heavies (175/180) and see what you like more. Just know to best the performance of a heavy at long range, you have to push the 155 hot over 2900fps. At lower speeds, Palma = less drop, Heavys = buck wind better.

Re: Question about Siera bullets

2155 is the old 155 SMK, 2156 is the new 155 SK and comparable to the 155 Scenar and 155.5 Berger, all having essentially the same BCs.

Launch a 155 in the 2950 fps range and you get to 1000 yards in 30.7 MoA drop compared to a 175 SMK at 2650 fps at 41 MoA drop.

Since the 2156s are longer, they require a bit more twist. The old 2155s could be shot at 3000 fps in 30 tubes with 1:14 twist, the 2156s seem to require 1:13 twist (also at 3000 fps PALMA style long barreled guns).

Re: Question about Siera bullets

The 2155 has a lower BC than the 2156. The 2155 will shoot in about anything - any twist, any length bbl, any jump length, any velocity. The 2156, not so. Twist, velocity, and jump sensitive.

2155 = good general use bullet, 2156 = specific use bullet.

Try the Berger 155.5 Fullbore if you want a more tolerant/higher BC 155 grain bullet. It gives you the higher BC with less fuss than the 2156.

Re: Question about Siera bullets

As already mentioned, the ogive and length of the Palma bullet is optimized for 1000 yard flight. The 155 Palmas work great at 1000 yards. Bullets easily stay supersonic and they fly great on a calmer day.
