Question about stocks and barrel profiles

I am looking at purchasing a rifle with a manners stock already installed. The barrel is in Remington varmint contour. If I purchase the rifle and then decide to get a better barrel later can the stock be properly fitted for a newer contour barrel like MTU or M40?

Is this considered typical gunsmith work or is it unusual?

Not unusual, and while a gunsmith can do it, you can too.

Very easy to do but requires patience, i just did mine with a custom profile and it was easy.
