Ok i plan on doin a single shot bolt action. I have one question, is it possible to load a 300 win mag cartridge into a short action? I know the cartridge is long and wont feed from a internal mag or box mag in short action. I plan on loading each one by hand. And my reason for asking is i want to get/use a savage target action but cant find a long action version.

If you load like this guy, you could put almost any round in the action that is narrow enough to fit...

I would say if a loaded .308 round is longer than a fired piece of 300 winmag brass, it should work. Once loaded, the 300 would obviously need to be fired or you would have to remove the bolt to extract a loaded round. My grandfather has to do this with his 40X single shot 300 because he loads his rounds long.

Thanks guys, i figured the extraction of none fired round would be a problem and i wasnt sure if there were any other factors to figure in as well. Again thanks for the replys.

Hlee i never seen that video before and thats pretty badass except he has to re-establish cheek weld after every shot, and might be a pita doin that while laying prone. But thats a great idea to do.

Single shots are pitas, pretty much no matter how they are built. If you have to look around for your next round, you will need to reestablish cheep weld anyway. However, I agree that having to pull the bolt would be a pain when prone.
