I've got a 223 SPS Tactical and the accuracy is just awesome. I'm thinking of picking up a 308 version and noticed that they have come out with the AAC-SD SPS Tactical too. My question is how are these compared to the older SPS Tactical 308 rifles? I've see and heard of awesome results from these, but it seems that the new AAC-SD with the 1-10" tactical rifling isn't as accurate. Anyone own both and compare the accuracy? I like the cool factor, just from the youtube videos I've seen, the accuracy isn't where the older 1-12" barreled ones are, or is it just me? I picked one up at the gun shop and really liked the finish, alot smoother than my rough park finish of mine. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks Billy

Re: Question for SPS Tactical owners, AAC-SD and older

I've had my AAC-SD for a little less than a year now and it's been every bit as accurate as I would have expected. In working up loads with various bullets, I've been getting 5 shot groups around .6" at 100 yards with its favorite loads. Ive mainly been playing with 178 gr and 155 gr AXAXs, but I've shot some partitions and accubonds through it as well. Partitions are about 1" at 100, but I didn't spend a lot of time with them since I knew I wouldn't be taking any long shots at game with that bullet and this rifle.

The only thing I've done to mine so far is to put a new stock on it and adjust the x mark trigger pull weight down. Overall, I've been very pleased with it so far.

I plan on replacing the trigger since I'm not a huge fan of the x mark, but that's the only thing I have not been really pleased about. And, I knew I didnt like the trigger before I got the rifle.

What part of the rifle brings the cool factor? The threaded barrel?

1:10 twist barrel is the only difference. I got it for the threaded barrel. Easier to get a brake on it without a smith that way.

Accuracy doesn't seem to be an issue with mine. It's every bit as accurate as my brother's SPS-V with a 26" barrel. It just likes the heavier bullets (175 gr. and above) while 168's shoot great in his. They both consistently produce .5 moa groups or less.
