Question from a Noob.

Re: Question from a Noob.

I was taught to leave a layer of oil for storage to prevent rust and to run a 1-2 dry patches through before shooting to remove the oil, as excess oil in the barrel will cause chamber over-pressure issues

Re: Question from a Noob.

I would send some dry patches through it first. The majority of people here say to clean less shoot more. I tend to clean my 308 after a couple hundred rounds. Then its usually just some carbon cleaner and dry patches.

When I go to the range my barrel is the same as the way I last shot it. If you clean it at the range, I would also shoot 5 to 10 rounds through it before I left. You will see more consistent cold bore shots.

I hate to piggy back off the OP's question, but when accuracy starts to suffer, how many rounds does it usually take get the barrel up to par again? Had to ask, just cleaned my barrel after 200 rounds.

My barrels have all shot very close clean or dirty. When I clean a rifle, I put 5 to 10 rounds through it just so it is fouled before my next trip or hunting.

Sooo, he is saying there is no need to clean your barrel, or am I missing something?
