reloading some 7.62x51 nato with crimped primer pockets... i know you need to use the reamer to get rid of the crimp, but do you also use a uniformer on crimped primer pockets??? or just ream them?

anyone able to post any pics of before and after you ream the primer crimps?

Dillon makes a swager that works well on brass with crimped pp's

I also always use a pp uniformer regardless of brass. I'm not sure how much good it does, but I like the primer pockets to look nice and shiny

Reamer does not remove the crimp. A swager does, or you can cut them out with an exacto knife.

The primer pocket uniformer makes them all the same depth.

The flash hole tool makes the flame enter the body more freely.

don't think i would use an exacto knife as it sounds like cut fingers, but you are saying the only way to reload military brass is with a swager??? from what i've been reading you can use either a reamer or swager?? now i'm really confused.

Mine does. Nicely. That's what it was made for. Lyman. Beats hell outta a knife, drill bit, countersink, etc.

Re: question on crimped primer pockets

so my big question is...... does the actual brass sleeve need to be removed or not? or can i just ream it?? it just seams like the reamer doesn't do much if anything...

that's what i thought... thank you!

Re: question on crimped primer pockets

if you need to decrimp the primer pocket, it is not match brass, just ream or swage it and run it, if you want good match loads buy better brass.
    hope this helps.

I've got a quantity of Lapua brass that has crimped primer pockets - definitely match quality. I removed the crimp with an RCBS swaging die set, works very well.

Re: question on crimped primer pockets

I wasn't aware Lapua brass came with crimped primers. Black hills brass maybe? The Dillon super swage is the way I deal with the crimped PP. There are other ways, but that's the fastest other the the jerk that says "Dillon 1050".
