So I'm new here and want to eventually have a rifle built for me. I don't anticipate joining any timed competitions but more than likely just want to test my own skills and get better.
I Have absolutely zero long range custom rifle experience and just realized while gleaning these forums... that rifle barrels don't last forever?!?.
Lol. Makes sense, now that I've read about it on the forums...

That being said... what happens when it's time for a new barrel? Is it difficult to have a new barrel installed?
Costly?

Thanks

When it's time to get a new barrel, then get a new barrel. The cost and time associated with it is dependent on the route you choose to go. Whether you ship off your action for a new barrel, order pre- fits and do it yourself, or have your gs keep your action specs on hand and have them spin you up something when you call in for a replacement.

As for being difficult, generally no. I'd say the only thing that would make it difficult, is if something is wrong with the work performed, the barrel in general, or trying to reach your smith if the project is significantly delayed.

New barrel blank plus chamber/threading and coating usually runs anywhere between $600-$900 depending on who does the work and what brand barrel blank you use. Add $50 to that for shipping expenses if you don’t have a competent smith near you to do the job.

It’s not hard if someone else is doing the work for you :)
