Got a question on varget? First time loading varget. Found a load and backed off a little. Trying 44gr., 2.810 coal, 168gr TSX Barnes .308, Fed 210m. First one is stuffed? Any suggestions?

Re: Question

Yea...Varget does like to fill the case up...you can use a longer drop tube on your powder thrower so as to keep the powder from bunching up at the top...aka...get the fluff out of the powder and it sits lower...you can tap your finger on the side of the brass to help settle the powder...or just stick the bullet it...seat and crunch it down. I use 44.1 grains on my 175 SMKs and it's tight...I use 45.1 grains on my 168 A-Max's...and it's tight.

It's simply a case filling powder.....kinda impossible to double charge

Re: Question

You also have to remember that different brands of brass have different volume capacities as well. One brand could be compressed at 45 grains while another brand fits with no compression and very little movement of the powder when you shake the round. That and we all seat to different depths as well.

Re: Question

What kinda brass? I load 44gr in Hornady, Rem, and Nosler brass and its around the base of the neck, just a little crunching with Hornady 178s, none really with Amax 168s at 2.815 OAL. Dropped thru a normal powder funnel. Course that no lead Barnes is probably a little longer.
