ok i found the stock i really really like bell & carlson a5
now i would like to find an action that would work with this stock for 338 lm
would remington long action work or do i need to look at custom actions
also i would like a repeater
thanks guys

Re: question

Savage makes the 110 FCP-K or some designation like that in a factory rifle.

The stock on it sucks, I shot it a bit when another club member brought one to the range and it's not great. The barreled action on the other hand, shoots very well.

I don't know that you can get a stripped action for either. A Remington RUM action should share the bolt face, they make a 700P in 338LM but finding a donor action for that in a pawn shop is a probably a pipe dream.

If you're going to put real money into building a 338 LM, I'd skip trying to find the compatible factory action and just get a custom off the get go. By the time you have it blueprinted and ready to barrel the costs are going to be pretty close.

200-300 bucks on a completed rifle, with glass is about 5-8% difference in price

Re: question

ok

I believe the bolt face needs to be opened up since the RUM uses a standard .532 bolt face (rebated rim) and the 338 LM uses a .590 face.

The bolt face will have to be opened up during the blueprinting process, if you have a gunsmith you want to work with already I'd call them and ask if they are willing to do this. Most good gunsmiths are willing to take care of it.

EDIT: You can also run a 338 RUM or 338 Edge (338-300 RUM for a little extra oomph) and have ballistics on par with the 338 LM and no changes to the bolt face.

Re: question

thanks

338 edge looks like a hell of a round !
i will look into this one a bit more
it looks like i could do it exactly the way i wanted
with this stock and rem long action just swaping the barell and some minor things
