Questions about Hornady Die Boxes.......

So I'm attempting to organize my die sets from various manufacturers and need some advice. I have dies from Redding, Forster, and Lee and am using a Co-Ax press so the lock ring is typically in a different spot than other presses. I am trying to put together all of the dies for a specific rifle (or common rifle load) in one die box.

The problem I'm having is that none of the die boxes that I have can accommodate the longer dies from Redding and Forster (micrometer seather dies). Somebody mentioned that perhaps the new Hornady die boxes would solve my issue.

Can somebody take some pics of the inside of a Hornady die box with a Forster and/or Redding Micrometer bullet seater in the box? Also, what is the internal height dimension?

Re: Questions about Hornady Die Boxes.......

How about a correct box from Redding of Forster? I have the micrometer seater set from Redding and it certainly fits in the box it came with. I also have a Forster box and it would hold a micrometer seater too but its bigger. Hornady is rather large also. I cant take pice because im at work sorry.

Cigar boxes work good. Plastic "Tupperware" boxes from Walmart do too, and both have room for other items related to the specific cartridge as well.

Re: Questions about Hornady Die Boxes.......

Interesting idea to remove the micrometer head. Kind of a pain though but it will work.

From the pictures, it looks like the Hornady boxes might work though. Pretty tall for the micrometer dies and stackable.

Hi Matt im not sure if this what you wanted or not but I took a pic of a Forster Ultra Seating Die and Redding Competition Seating Die in a Hornady die box. Hope this helps!

Here you go:

Re: Questions about Hornady Die Boxes.......

Kawika, that is exactly what I was looking for! Looks like the Hornady box will do the trick with a little extra space to spare!

BTW, the new Forster Boxes will not accommodate these two dies in the same way, especially with lock dies configured for a Co-Ax.

Re: Questions about Hornady Die Boxes.......

So I received a Hornady box and it had no issue holding 4 dies with 1 being a Forster Ultra Micrometer seater (all in 308 Win). Definitely a well constructed and large box, albeit a bit bulky and has a bit of wobble with the dies in the box. Not ideal but a definite improvement over the too tight RCBS box.

Does anybody have a Lyman die box to compare against an RCBS box? I'm wondering if the Lyman is a bit taller.

I use these boxes for all of my dies. Good boxes.

If you're talking to me, I stocked up about 8 months ago. I do need some more, if you find a source let me know!

Re: Questions about Hornady Die Boxes.......

Victor and USMarine, you should definitely put in a product request at MidwayUSA.com for them to add them back to the list. The product is still available from Hornady (and can buy direct) but was discontinued from MidwayUSA for whatever reason.

I put in my request so the more folks that do, the more likely they will add it back as a stocking item.

Re: Questions about Hornady Die Boxes.......

I use the new Forester Boxes with Redding "S" set with Mic seater, wearing Hornady LnL bushings.
The fit is perfect for me.

I have to turn the Mic down on the seating die to my "0" position, then reset the seater to the appropriate depth when I set it up for use again.
No big deal.
My seater die is calibrated to match the Redding "Instant Indicator" comparator so setup is a snap.
Worst case scenario, I run up my reference dummy cartridge into the comparator then turn the seater die to the corresponding depth.

BTW, I did find a source for the Hornady boxes. Sinclair Intl has them available and in stock.

They're the ones we're talking about that are a good alternative to the Hornady boxes. Look a few posts up.

Re: Questions about Hornady Die Boxes.......

Yes but folks were asking for a source for the Hornady boxes, not the Forsters.......... We can buy Forster's practically anywhere.
