So I'm confused as to where the AOW fits in with state/federal gun laws... In MO for a shotgun must have a barrel of at least 18", with an overall length of 26" to not fall into the SBS category. Does the AOW get around this? What are the differences? Is it just putting on a pistol grib and shorter/cutting the barrel, then paying the $5 tax stamp to register it as an AOW? I have a cheap NEA single shot 12 ga. that I'd like to shorten a bit, just for use as a truck gun. Thanks guys.

SBS are not legal to possess in Indiana, AOW's are. By Indiana's definition, a shotgun is a shoulder fired weapon. An AOW is classified as a smooth bore pistol.
