I'm considering a one-piece base to mount my main optic and for my back-up scope. The rifle is a Barrett M99. I'm not too concerned with cant on the scope bases. The scopes I'm using and planning to upgrade to have enough adjustment range to get me out to 1000 yards for match shooting.

Currently I have a SWFA SS 20X that is sitting in Barrett rings. I'd like to drop the Barret rings in favor of a QD system. The 20X will then be reserved to the back up role if the main scope fails during competition. For my main scope, I'd like to possibly go with a SWFA 5-20X. With both of those scopes sitting in QD mounts I will be ready to swap should the main glass fail.

I'd like to hear from you. What experience do you have with QD mounts. I like the idea of a one-piece base and would like to stay away from extended bases or ones that feature any type of cantilever effect. I don't need that atop the 50 anyhow. I'd also consider QD scope rings in lieu of a QD base. Pics and specific recomendations on make and model would be helpful.

Thanks,

Re: Quick Detach Scope Mounting Options

I use a Larue QD mount on my AR and it returns to zero. I know Larue makes a mount specifically for the 50 BMG w/ 30 MOA built in, but it is not inexpensive.

Re: Quick Detach Scope Mounting Options

My experience with QD mounts is that adm, larue, GGG and bobro all seemed to return to hold and return to zero "good enough" on my 308 AR (the rifle shoots MOA or occasionally better, sometimes using the QD mount means a .1mil windage click to get me back to zero). If you can live with that then any one of them would probably work.

If you're anal about precision stick to rings and keep a small wrench handy (preferably with torque settings).

Re: Quick Detach Scope Mounting Options

I run ARC M3 rings; I keep the allen wrench in my grip and have the screws witness marked for torque. No issues returning to zero.

Their new M10 mounts have thumb screws to make removal and install faster. Worth a look.
