In "Lone Survivor", Marcus Luttrell talks about wishing he had brought additional optics for his Mk12 to swap for his primary. Are detachable mounts being fielded for the MK12 system and if so who is the manufacturer?
Thanks for the input.

I know some of the MK12 came with ARMS scope rings. I have seen pictures and heard of units using the Nightforce (bolt on) mounts or purchasing Larue mounts.

I have my NightForce mounted in an American Defense AD-Recon and it works great! You can get details on their website.

This isn't my rifle but you can get an idea of how the AD-Recon looks.

Thanks for the input.</div></div> Are you looking specifically for what the military is using for general knowledge, or are you looking for a platform for yourself? If you're looking for a base recommendation here is what I use.

On my MK12 at home I went with the Nightforce Unimount. I prefer mounts that bolt up on the sides rather than the top as that blocks my view of the elevation turret. I don't need a QD mount in the US as I've never had a need to do a scope change in 10 seconds on a one way range.

For that matter even our Aimpoints at work are in a Badger Ord. MAX-50 ring for strength and to avoid the idiot factor for some users. Sometimes you have to remember that if you give a guy two ball bearings in a locked and padded room that when you come back 30 minutes later he will have broken one and lost the other.

I view the civilian use purpose of QD mounts as a matter of convenience for users who swap the same optic across different platforms, but quite frankly with a torque wrench only costing $100 or less it really isn't that hard to do the same with a fixed mount. Personal preference prevails.

Re: Quick Detatchable mount for Mk12?

I'm interested in what the guys on the ground are using. I'm familiar with the mounting systems out there but I am specifically looking for what is approved and or used in country. The MK 12 is considered a precision rifle and I've always questioned the repeatability of quick detatch systems.

no we aren't officially fielding any if somebody has one its cuz they bought it. we get issued nightforce rings and unimounts. i got myself a spuhr mount for my work gun, not quick though. but i plan on throwing a aimpoint t1 on it.

Re: Quick Detatchable mount for Mk12?

LaRue has a big USMC contract. They are making a ton of QD mounts for just about everything the Marines mount. The OP is right - QD is a very nice feature if the system is good. Glad to see the Marines are getting such a good product.

I think the in SpecOps community, they basically have their own budgets and can buy any piece of gear they want. I'm sure they own a ton of LaRue stuff now...

Re: Quick Detatchable mount for Mk12?

I have been running ARMS 22 with a Nightforce 5.5x22x56 in them on a AR10. I like it for moving the scope forward to mount my PVS-14. I have always reconfirmed zero after and would say that it has never been more than just over a MOA from mounted to remount. I remember Frank(lowlight) was testing a QD system a while back and we was returning to zero with great results. you should be able to search it and find it. I really do like the looks of the American Defense stuff and plan to pick up one or two the next chance I get.
