so here in a hour or two after i get two scopes mounted i am going to be trying my hand in my first bedding job... its a savage action in .458 socom for legal deer hunting in Indiana. its going into a stockade gun stocks mule deer stock. i am pretty sure i have everything prepped 100 percent and have dropped the action in several times to make sure it will go smooth....
now for the question.
how long should i let the devcon steel cure before i try to clean up the edges? how long until i remove the barreled action?

Re: quick question about bedding

Let the Devcon set-up to a clay like consistency before cleaning it up. You will know when it is ready because it will not be sticky any more and any excess will come right off.

I'm horribly messy when playing with epoxy so I mask my entire stock to make clean up a little easier.

I've watched videos of the pros doing it and they hardly have any clean-up to deal with. I don't know what kind of voodoo they use but I would like some.

Be sure to use plenty of clay, I managed to glue in my floorplate on the last rifle I did. Missed the hinge pin hole and it created a great mechanical lock

Re: quick question about bedding

after having added the epoxy, i think i was a tiny tiny bit to sparing on a small portion of one side as it didnt bubble over... its damn near the top, but didnt flow over.... i think i started clean up a bit to soon but will wait another 30 minutes or so next time.... and next time i will definatly be taping the whole stock.
