What would happen if you loaded a bullet upside down by accident?

I was handloading some bullets a few minutes ago and I almost pushed a bullet into a press upside down. Just wondering what would happen if I had actually done this and shot it if possible.

Thanks

Re: Quick question

Years ago I saw one of those Educated Idiot types at a range do this one time...and on purpose.

He had some .30 cal FMJ milsurp stuff he had pulled apart and reloaded, and was concerned it would effect too much damage on our steel if it hit point first.

He was a good one for a lot of laughs.....

Re: Quick question

Because of the super duper boat tail design pointed back at the powder burn collumn, it might cause some undue wear on the inside of the barrel. The longer taper would act like a funnel letting the hot gas and pressure slip down the side of the bullet. One or two times may not be measurable. But if you ran several hundrend rounds like that, it MIGHT be enough to do some real damage.

Vic,

"super duper BT's"

Me & my little buddy I was in NRA junior HP with used to talk about loading them that way when we were kids. We said we'd call them truncated super boat tails!

Too funny.

Re: Quick question

davide, thanks for the view.

I think Gen Hatcher did that for one of many experiments he did. I'll have to dig out the book and see why and what happened.

You would blow your sighting eye out. Mess up your bolt too.

Wasn't planning on shooting one. Just wondered what would happen so I figured who better to ask than snipershide reloaders.

WTF?!?!

I don't think you'd notice much difference in the firing, but your results on target may be less than stellar.
