Quick Release Mounts? Good Secure Options?

I used the search function but was unable to find a relevant post so I'm starting a new one.

I want to make use of my best rifle scope on a couple of rifles rather than the best scope sitting on one rifle and having inferior scopes on the other rifles. I want to use my IOR Valdada 6-24 tactical scope on my Savage FCP-K (.308) and on my Remington 700 (8mm Mauser). I also want to use my IOR Valdada 2-12 Spartan on my M1A and later on an AR flat top that I'm building. I've looked around and the best mounting solution that I was able to find were mounts by American Defense. For my bolt guns the most appropriate mount is Ad-Recon-SW. My idea was to simply use the same 20moa picatinny bases on each rifle and the scope would sit in the AD mount and could be easily swapped from one rifle to the other. I just can't put out the money to put good scopes on all of them but, I want to have the use of good optics on each of my rifles.

Are there any other options, problems or other things to consider with this before I buy any parts?

Re: Quick Release Mounts? Good Secure Options?

Most on the QD mounts are 1.5" high for AR setups and if you put it onto of a base your cheek weld will be 2" or more. Larue makes some ultra log QD rings that would keep the weld lower for your bolt guns then you'd have to put a riser on your AR to get it high enough for the bell to be above the hand-guard.

Larue mounts look good. I didn't see that they have them with 35mm rings. Both of my scopes have 35mm tubes. Do they modify them to order for 35mm rings?

I'm not certain about 35mm size, but they have great customer service and have taken the time to talk with me each time I've called them. Try giving them a call and explain your situation. Hopefully they have a solution. BTW, Larue claims a return to zero when the scope is removed, then returned to the same attach points on your base, although I've never tried it myself. Good luck.

Re: Quick Release Mounts? Good Secure Options?

I spoke to LaRue cs today about their qd mounts and they do offer 35 mm rings for their mounts. You could also buy different size rings if you change scope sizes too for about 35 dollars.

This is good to know. Thanks for checking.

Re: Quick Release Mounts? Good Secure Options?

some quality rings, base and a good torque wrench may be the ticket also. should rezero as easily as the QD stuff if attached to the same rail slot and torqued the same each time. with any removal/reattachment of an optic you are going to fire a shot or two to confirm zero before hunting or starting a match anyway.

If LaRue is an answer, then LaRue is THE answer

Re: Quick Release Mounts? Good Secure Options?

ADM (American Defense Mfg) makes several excellent, repeatable zero, QD mounts in 35mm. Most center ~1.5" above the rail, but they also have a lower one that centers at ~1.2" above the rail.

AD RECON SL

I use the AD Recon -S on a POF 308 which has a fairly high rail, but I also use a PRS stock with the comb up a bit. I've removed and replaced my scope in this mount alot and have no issues with maintaining zero.

Re: Quick Release Mounts? Good Secure Options?

Some good responses. GDI mounts look like top quality stuff but $500.00 for a mount. I'm going to call Larue to szee what they offer and decide.

Re: Quick Release Mounts? Good Secure Options?

You cant go wrong with GDI, Larue and Amercian Defense. They all make great mounts. I use the NightForce Unimount now and Im really impressed with it. Its not quick disconnect but it comes of very quickly with a torque wrench that I carry in my pack.
