So. Ca
Greetings:
After several weeks (scheduled 4 actual 7 weeks) I finally received my new Krieger barrel. This afternoon I decided to remove the original barrel; no joy.
Does DPMS/Remington apply a thread locking componund? Since the receiever is coated in Mossy Oak I was reluctant to use a heat gun. Would freezing the assembly to -40 help?
Thanks

AC

Re: R-25 DPMS LR 308 BARREL REMOVAL

I found when I pulled the barrel off of mine that DPMS put Thread locker on the FFT ring. Once that was off the proper barrel nut wrench from brownells made short work of the barrel nut. I had to use a bit of heat and a strap wrench to break the free float tube loose though. Wasnt concearned about the finish since the camo is kinda lame anyway. If you want an all black rifle Aceton and a nylon bristle brush will make short work of the camo dip on it.

Before going much further you do know that the Free Float tube is two pieces and that the front part has to be screwed off first correct?

Thank you for your response. The free floating handguard came off easy, no thread locking compound. I'll apply some heat to the barrel nut this afternoon

Original barrel is off, just needed additional torque, nothing a 12" cheater bar couldn't manage. WoW the barrel/receiver fit is very good, minimum clearance between them, whether the orginal barrel or the Krieger.

Stuck with same issue, just not for barrel but rail upgrade. Not heating not big wrench moved the bitch a lil. My back hurts, Im afraid to broke up the upper, but no, not a move. Any idea colleagues?

LMAO...

I use a heat gun to get the barrel nut hot to the touch, then they seem to pop off much easier.
