I built a SA remage In 308 and love it. I just picked up a 7mm rem mag barreled action from around the year 2000 “no date code on the barrel”. Thinking of building a 300 PRC or a 300 win mag. Something for both hunting Aoudad 500+ Yards and 1500+ target. I do reload my own ammo. This will be another remage build, with a aluminum bedded stock more than likely. Give me some ideas, thoughts and opinions.

If you're only shooting reloads, I would go 300prc. The only advantage of the 300wm is factory ammo, and in your case, reusing the 7RM mags.

Or you could just keep it as a 7RM. It'll easily fulfil your requirements.

Ordered a 300 PRC Mcgowen 28” 1:8 twist Mcgowen #8 contour threaded barrel. Hopefully it will be in by this fall. Here’s the stock I will be using H&S bedded stock. All I need is a detachable mag kit. The H&S ones are on back order.

What caliber did you decide on? I just went through this same process and decided to stick with 7mm magnum. Picked up an X-Caliber remage barrel from Crown Ridge Barrel Works, and then had River Bend Gun Co swap the barrels.

Decided to go with 300 PRC. I don’t have any brass but found some 1x fired 300 PRC brass

Is 300 PRC any more forgiven to the barrel than 300WM?
I am thinking, or just balling in on my mind, that once i have shot my 6.5PRC barrel out, i might go for the 300 PRC.

Is your 6.5 PRC a long action ?

I have seen a few way to remove the factory barrel. What’s the best way, I don’t need to save the recoil lug or barrel. I have a external action wrench and can put the barrel in a vise.

You put the barrel in the vice and the action in the wrench and turn it off.

I put a 6’ pipe as a breaker bar over the action wrench handle and it never takes that much physical effort. Just make sure everything is tight so it doesn’t shift.

I had an old 700 ADL in a 7mag I’m re barreling to 300 Prc as well. I trued up the action yesterday and finished sleeving the bolt today. I still need to cut it for the Wyatt’s box. The old barrel was a bitch to get off of this one, it was corroded up pretty good on the threads. I am going with a 1:8 Kreiger at 24” on this one. It will also have the first AG Composites stock I have used if it would show up. Two weeks late already.

A good vise and a cheater pipe it came loose very easy, no threads were damaged!

Since I’m waiting on the 300 PRC, I decided to get a standard long action bolt and use my 28” 308 barrel for the time being. This is a Magpul bottom metal, it didn’t need any modifications which I was surprised.

7mm RemMag with Berger 180 or 195’s will do both easily. You will need to get a 1:8 twist 7mm barrel to stabilize the 195’s. But it would be a beast.

Yeah I just didn’t have any 7mm bullets and have tons of 30 cal bullets so decided to build a 300 PRC instead

Ideas, thoughts, or opinions on what exactly? Cartridge? Component manufacturers? Aesthetic’s? This is such a wide open request

Edit: that goddamned “similar threads” footer got me again. Just noticed this is a few months old

The build is so close I can smell the gun powder. Just need a mag

Hmmmm, there is a piece of information, or should I say IP, that we need not have the ChiComs find out about and in my love for things USMC have never considered, having always used a Redding, Unertl or M40A3 lugged base.

Wow man that’s awesome, I will send you a pm! This community here has been great for a newb like myself!

Big shout out to @MikeRTacOps for sending me a set of two piece bases! These are definitely my favorite bases and I might just have to switch out the 1 piece bases on my other rifles. Called him yesterday to tell him thanks and he returned my call today. Told me if I need anything else to just let him know! Will definitely be doing business with him.
