Do any of you guys have any experience with this caliber? I have a opportunity to pick up one with a fixed 12x leupold on it for 500 bones ...seemed like a good deal, going to uses it mostly for coyotes and some does once in a while, thanks in advance,

Re: R700 in 220 swift

I have a Sako AII in the Swift and love it, in a modern barrel the swift isn't that bad as a barrel burner, if you dont have access to a borescope, at least look down the tube under a fluro and make sure it's nice and shiny.

Re: R700 in 220 swift

The 220 is the king of the 22s. Running it hard, it can get the ~40gr bullets to over 4000fps, which is remarkable on varmints.

The wear to the barrel is also remarkable.

I think buying a used 220 is a bad idea unless:

1. You KNOW it's history
2. You're planning on rebarreling, so it doesn't matter how torched it is already
3. You have someone that knows what they're looking at, with a borescope, check it out and give it a clean bill of health.

Thanks guys, she has 5 rounds down the tube,My 80 year old neighbor owns the rifle since new so i do know the history, I might be rebareling with a hart barrel, I would like a heavier barrel on it,

I have a 40X in .220 SWIFT. It is my favorite rifle. I push 55gr Ballistic tips 3850FPS and it turns groundhogs inside out.

Rem Action, 350, 12 Leupold, 300. Stock, barrel, mount are all gravy, just buy it and see how it shoots. If you re barrel, I suggest a more modern, rimless case designe. 22-250, 22-250 AI etc.

Re: R700 in 220 swift

if the barrell really only has 5 rounds down it then go for it.Iv owned a remy 700 vs in swift for 12 years now.Iv taken foxes out to almost 500yards with it.Its a savage varmint calibre ,very flat shooting and is deadly when combined with ballistic tips.I usually use hornady 55gr ballistic tips.heres my swift

I don't think you should buy that rifle....send me the sellers info and I'll let him know for you...

For $500, I don't see how you could go wrong. You can always resell it for a little less if you don't like it. It would be cheap experience.
