I think I screwed up. I was doing some cleaning on one of my 700's today and can't get the firing pin assembly back in. I removed the firing pin assembly by turning the j lock a half turn now I can't get it back into the correct position. I'm not sure if this makes sense but it's like the bolt is in the cocked position. I sure hope I didn't screw up.

Re: R700 J Lock Help

Screw the assemble in as far as it will go.

Loop a shoelace around the cocking piece pulling it to the rear and rotate the bolt shroud to put the firing pin assembles in the cocked position. (little notch in the bolt body)

Or put a quarter in a vise, put the edge of the cocking piece against the quarter and pull while rotating the shroud putting it in the cocked position.

One other thing. Replace the J-Lock assemble as soon as possible. Never move the little lock to the locked position.

If you have it in the locked position you may have to do the above to take pressure off the pin so you can turn the lock to the open position with the little key.
