    Folks,

I'm looking to see if anyone has any TAC load data that appears to have been successful in a 20inch AR-15?

Specifically using HORNADY 68 grain BTHP Match bullets and TAC, 1:8 or 1:9 twist.

Non-AR load data would not really be useful. 16, 18, and 20 inch AR-15 barrel loads would be...

My goal is to find out if anyone has had success with these bullet and TAC. (Both of which I have HUGE amounts of...4500 of the bullet and mucho pounds of TAC.)

    Thanks a bunch!

    GB

PS The reason for the "please do give me bolt action rifle loads" is that they are just not useful for carbines, and all I'm seeing are bolt action loads with 24inch barrels.

24.5 gr TAC and CCI 400 is what my buddy uses in his Rock River 24" and it is sub MOA to 500. He loves that Hornady 68 gr. Try that and I don't think you'll be disappointed. He recently moved out of state and hooked up with some shooters there, and after he out shot them all, they told him he can just go back to where he came from. I think most of the brass he got was from what I cleaned up from the local PD range. Mixed head stamps to say the least.

I have used the exact same load with Russian primers out of 20" and 16" ARs and 16" POF with very good results.

The 24" has the rifle length system. If you don't have the same gas system, I wouldn't worry. The port size in the carbine is smaller to even things out with the shorter length. It's not really that big of a deal. This load is used by more than a few folks, all with similar results. It's not a nuclear load by any means, just work up to it like anything else. I'm quite sure your rifle will like it too.

For whatever its worth I use 24.5 gr Tac with 69 SMK's in a 20" bbl. Velocity is 2860 with sub MOA 5 rd groups. This gets me slightly higher velocity than 25 gr of varget with similar accuracy. Ymmv

Well, my goal is to make about 3000 plinking rounds using this load.

I've got two AR uppers, a Larue OBR 556 1:8 and an Armalite w/ Stag HBAR 1:9... [both 20 inch rifles]

...so something that generally works well enough in each.

Re: Ramshot TAC / Hornady 68gr BTHP Match Loads? AR-15

My AR shoots better with 23.6gr of TAC for the 68/69 gr (0.6MOA). 24.4gr of TAC is the accuracy load for the 60gr Nosler Partitions.

You might try the range from 23.6 to 24.5 then. Every gun is different and the accuracy load on websites and reloading manuals have never turned out to be the accuracy load for my guns.

    GBMaryland,

Well I don't know what you are going to be "plinking", but the suggested loads above would make many service rifle guys very happy. Those loads should shoot sub MOA from a good AR. Even my chrome lined 16" carbine likes that combo. 24 grains of TAC is what I use.

The 68 is a very good bullet, with metered TAC it will be easy to assemble those 3000 rounds.
