Here's my situation, I have a Remington 700 Varmint in 6mm with a Zeiss Conquest HD5 5-25x50. I ordered the Larue one piece 20moa picatinny rail and the Leupold mark 4 medium rings for it. I get everything mounted and go to zero the gun. Its probably 8 inches high at 25 yards with no more down adjustment. I sent back the 20moa rail in exchange for the 0 moa, I go back out to the range and I'm STILL 3 inches high at 25 yards with no more down adjustment. I know the Zeiss scopes only have 68 MOA adjustment but I wouldn't think I couldn't zero? I'm an amateur, PLEASE HELP.

It's odd to me that you were 8 inches high with a 20 MOA But only 3 inches high with a 0 MOA scope base.
You sure you didn't have the 20MOA on backwards?

And why 0 at 25 yards? Is it a rimfire?

OP stated he is using a Remington 700 in 6MM. :D

I am a little worried about this situation as well, since I am looking at picking up an HD5 in 5-25x50 as well. Not that I would be shooting my .308 beyond 500 yards tomorrow, I would like to leave myself some room for improvement and growth. Setup will mostly be used for hunting, but there is a 1000 yd range under construction about 2 miles away.

It seems backwards to me, but the holes in the receiver and in the mount line up this way and not the other way.
Also, these pics are of the 20 moa mount

The scope is very crisp and sharp, I love the scope but I just cant seem to get it setup right on the rifle.

Sounds correct to me. 20moa @ 100 yards = 20.94 inches, at 25 yards that is 5.23 inches. OP is seeing a 5" difference at 25 yards.

I would assume he is starting at 25 yards to make sure he is on paper at 100. 3 inches high at 25 = 12 inches high at 100 which will probably put him on paper but the 8 inches high at 25 yards would put him 32 inches over point of aim, probably a complete miss at 100.

Yes these were just estimates and not exact and the reason i was shooting at 25 yds was just to get on paper.

Your rail is correct in those pictures so that rules out the first possibility. Is everything torqued to spec? Also, when torquing the base onto the receiver, was there any visible flex/bow/irregularity that you may have missed?

I too had the same problem with a Zeiss Davari scope recently and never got it to zero at 100 yards. Started out with a 20 moa rail and went back to a zero moa. I have never had a problem with my nightforces, leupolds, tascos, bushnell, or simmons....... Just took it off and placed it on a self until I have time to figure it out.. Placed Leupold on rifle and it went right to zero at one hundred in two shots......hope someone here has an answer.

I am not familiar with this scope but I thought I read somewhere in a similar thread this may have zero stops that are called something else. Does the scope have all of the elevation adjustment it should have from top to bottom? You said 68 moa; run it up and down to see for sure.

So what are the next steps? So you pull the Zeiss off and try setting else? I have been looking at my options; I could go with a Leopold 4-24x52, but they cost more. Now I'm in the Nightforce/Bushnell Tac Elite price point, and I'm not sure a FFP scope is right at this time.

I'm still scratching my head here, but obviously this setup isnt going to work. I have a Leupold 8.5-25x50 with a 30mm tube that I love. Great clarity, bright but my only problem with it is that with the fine duplex reticle, when i put the scope on 25x, the reticle with start to get VERY faint and especially if the sun is glaring and its 100 degrees. I might look into Vortex Razors

The next step is to read the reply in post #12 and check to see if you have a zero stop which often prevents zeroing at 100 when it is engaged due to the scope being optically centered from the factory.

If you're looking at possibly getting a different scope - Sightron III. 6x24x50 long range. Side focus. They have several different reticles. The LRMOA and LRMD/Cm have exposed turrets. 100 moa of adjustment. Big Supply Shop has some great prices.

Well I have an embarrassing confession to make. After looking at the zero stop as recommended, that's what was holding me up. (Slaps forehead) well it's fixed after some unnecessary cussing and frustration. When all else fails, read the directions. I appreciate all the input guys, saved me a major headache.

Glad to hear its going to work. I am curious though; was this a new scope or was it previously used? I am wondering if the zero stop was set from the factory or by a previous user. Nothing wrong with that either way, but I am curious. Be sure to update us on how you like this scope after the next day at the range. Sounds like it will be a pretty nice setup. Enjoy.

The scope was brand new. This was my first Zero Stop scope and I was used to just dialing my zero in. I tried doing that and ran into the Zero Stop now knowing what was happening. I remember reading when I was doing my homework before buying, that this scope only had 16.5 moa elevation adjustment when the zero stop was set. Well, it never "clicked" to me that the range of the elevation knob was 16.5 and I was still scratching my head why. Very easy fix though.
I went to the range and set it. Zeiss makes a very BRIGHT scope and the clarity is amazing. Even all the way out to 25x, the image still remains clear and sharp. The HD5 Conquest line is a pretty good Value for the money. I'm not gonna be going up and down the turrents dialing in shots because 600 yards is about my max with this caliber. Its a great mid-range scope for hunting/punching paper. Only drawback is weight, kinda hefty but is pretty compact. Quality Glass.

Anytime I sell a scope I always tell the buyer that the zero stop has been set and since I run 30moa bases they may not be able to get a zero at 100. I do run set the zero stop 2 mils below at 100 but that could still mess someone up who doesn't understand there has been a limit set. Put the 20moa back on and zero it so you have the elevation if needed.

Ffp for hunting is like condoms for golf
