I finally pulled the trigger and bought an impact, and barrel is supposed to be spun up by valentine’s. I need to get my range ready to start shooting again. I have a clean slate long canyon ready for steel my question is what ranges should I put them at to be training for a match I think I’m going to hang 4 or 5 if I can find the steel. What distances do you guys think? Also I’m wanting to build a barricade to shoot off of what distance should I practice off the barricade? Thanks.

Serious answer, start with your targets in the 1.5-2 MOA bracket. If you can’t hit them, move them closer. If you always hit them, move them further. Position is irrelevant.

I’m a decently capable shooter but what distance are barricade shots in a match normally I want to practice those ive never shot off one before are they normally 5-700?

That all depends on the match and is still irrelevant. Range to target is nothing more than a wind call and dope change, MOA size of target is what matters. A good goal is shooting MOA, but most improvised position shots have a 2 MOA target, KYL stages go well sub MOA. It’s very easy to find a match with an improvised position shot beyond 1k, so that’s why I say to shoot “all the ranges”.

Don’t get too wrapped around distances until you get transonic, it’s all just a game of simple angles and wind calls inside that. Work on position stability, movement and processes, that wins the day between two equally accurate shooters.
