I made it to the range this morning and got to dial in the new stick. I was curious to see what she'd do on factory ammo and I was quite surprised.

Between zeroing the USO and doing a few shoot-clean-shoot drills to season the barrel I decided to go for some groups before heading home. I shot 1 group with Federal 250gr scenar match that came in at precisely 1 inch then moved to Lapua 250gr lock base. The Lapua came in at slightly under an inch (below).

Given that this barrel only had 30 rounds through it up to this point I was very pleased at what I achieved on factory loads.

As for the Barrett, when I first saw the modular layout I couldn't help but ask...why? That answer is pretty clear now. It's a long weapon with a massive barrel yet weighs in at only 17lbs with a full mag and USO SN3.

Within 15 seconds you can split it in half and fit it in a backpack and it takes about as long to reassemble it. Cleaning is a breeze and you can't help but marvel at the rugged simplicity of this design, almost that of a farm implement.

Behind the glass she is very stable. Trigger weight is a little lighter than what I'm used to at a factory setting of 2-2.5 lbs. Recoil isn't excessive but it definately lets you know you've pulled the trigger. I've heard it described as the equivelant of a 12 gauge and I'd say that's fairly accurate.

The muzzle break does a decent job and the weapon doesn't bounce around during recoil. One interesting side effect is the break has a very strong side discharge, and it will knock stuff off of the next bench over if you're not far enough forward. That said, this stick will rarely ever see another bench (or a 100 yard line) again.

Overall I have to say that this thing rocks. Given my limited trigger time, factory ammo, and a barrel that hasn't yet reached it's full accuracy potential, this will easily be a 1/2 minute rig.

I took it out to 200 yards today and this was a typical target on factory ammo. Now that I have a few rounds through it I really don't see much of a difference between the Lapua and Federal.

Mirage was bad at 200 yds this AM . It was cool and the sun hitting the lanes warmed the ground quickly making for some squirrely images. It also seems that barrel heat has an effect on mirage. I shot a better group than this before the sun hit the lanes but this was pretty much the average.

    When you say it kicks like a 12ga, is that a 12 guage with a 2 3/4 shell, or a 3 1/2?? lol

I'm leaning towards the 3.5" after today. After 30 rounds today I had enough and my shoulder was killing me. I think the guys next to me had enough too. I was shooting prone and was sandblasting the guy 3 positions over. I pulled the muzzle back over the concrete but then it would knock stuff over. Not a good choice to shoot it on a crowded range day.

I've actually shot the 98 Bravo quite a bit. Great piece of kit. You have got that right about the side blast though. The brake generates a very strong pressure area that effects literally everything within 3ft. You definitely feel strong pressure in your face when you let one fly. We've shot it right next to .408's and the 98B definitely oppresses the senses.

As for accuracy, I've only run it out to about 300 yards, but easily accomplishes inch groups at that distance. Using a combination of 230gr HSM Match and 250gr Rem Scenars, it scored relatively well. Trigger is crisp, slightly longer pull than I'd like, but breaks clean.

The rifle breaks down quickly, no shakes, no rattles, just quality. For the money, it's definitely one of the best .338 contenders out there.

    Good report

My 27” seems to like the 300 gr. Scenar Lapua ammo and tends to hold tight at the extended distances.

I've heard numerous folks echo that. I have a case of 300's on the way. Right now I have to make due with what I can find.

Thanks, I thought I read somewhere else that it hit like 3 1/2 12ga.. I hope you can shoot more then 30 rounds your next time out..

You going to reload your own bullets, or just buy stock??
