I finally made it to the range with my new toy. 700LH in 300WM. It's got a 27" 1 in 10" twist No. 8 contour Shilen barrel, Tubb recoil lug, R&D brake & sits in a McMillan A4 with Badger bottom metal. The scope is a Bushnell Elite 4200 6-24x50 in Farrell rings on a Farrell 20moa base. It weighs about 17lbs ready to shoot. The metal work was done by Martin List in Tryon,OK. I ran 25 rounds of Hornady 165gr though it just to break in the barrel. This thing kicks less than my AR! I'm going to have a helluva lot of fun with it once I get dies and load some decent ammo. I'm thinking about trying H1000 & 208 AMAXs or 220 Matchkings. I think the 165s were too light and this was hunting ammo. I couldn't wait for dies & brass. I had to shoot the damn thing!
Now for the pics. The group is 5 shots at 100yds after running 20 rounds through the rifle.

Re: Range report on my new toy

I honestly didn't care about the groups from this ammo. I was dying to shoot it and start getting used to the rifle. This will also provide some decent brass. Once I get dies, I'll get serious about finding out what it will do. I'm planning to get a Forster bushing neck sizer and some type of benchrest seater. I also want to try neck turning the brass. A friend has a neck turning set-up, so why not? It won't cost anything to do it. The 'smith who built it just came in 1st overall in Heavygun & Unlimited in Raton, NM at a 1000yd 50bmg shoot with a rifle he barreled. He also made most of his loading equipment except the press. His best group was just over 4" for 5 shots! I've got a feeling that this thing will really shoot once I figure out what it likes. If it won't it's my fault.

Re: Range report on my new toy

nice work mate. howd you like the scope? i've got the exact same thing on my Tikka T3 lefty and its a brilliant peice of optic!

good to see another lefty. is that a factory 700 action or has it been tuned/trued?

Re: Range report on my new toy

Thanks, I like the scope so far. I bought it not long after it was introduced and I've had zero problems with it. It's not a NF, USO or anything like that but I didn't expect it to be. I did the "box test" when I bought it and it was dead on. It's always returned back to zero no problem after zeroing at 400-600yds. It's been on my SPS Varmint for over 1000 rds and the zero has never moved on it's on. The action is factory 700. I asked the 'smith about truing the action and he said he would do it, but he's never seen much benefit from it. He's been a gunsmith & machinist for nearly 40yrs and is a top level FCSA competitor so I trust his opinion.

i like mine too. though i think the turret caps are a bit off and my focus doesnt exactly line up but i just focus until its clear anyhow and forget about the actual range it says to use.

i havent box tested mine though, i should have really but i'll do it some other time.

really. i've heard trueing the action and getting it all blueprinted and stuff does wonders. must depend on peoples opinion really.
