I got this gun from Woody months ago and fired 20 rounds through it with a Leupold 8.5-25X50 Mark 4. It was extremely accurate during the break in, but I realized it was really hammering me.

I sent the gun back to Woody to have a Badger FTE brake and some other stuff done to it. When I got it back, Woody had done a great job on everything I had asked for, as usual.

While the gun was out getting some upgrades, I got really fired up about 22lr long range shooting out to 300 yds. After I got it back from Woody, it has been sitting in my safe.

This weekend my son got an invite out to a private range that has a 12 foot by 10 foot built up platform. 2 feet off the ground. They have sighter targets at 100, 200 and steel from 100-600 yards.

The gun now carries a S&B 5-25x56 with Badger rings and Badger FTE muzzle brake.

Recoil was managable and the gun shoots like a dream. Shooting Fed Prem factory 190 gr Match King HPBT ammo at 2900 FPS the gun performed flawlessly and was accurate as expected.

After bore sighting it took 3 rounds to get it perfect L to R and 1.5 inches high at a 100, so he just left it there for the first range test.

Fired 4 rounds on paper at 100 that all touched and set the turret. Enough of that!!!

Had a spotter with Iphone ballistic calc ap. He called the come ups and and my son shot 10" X 10" steel plates 100-600 yards. Let the gun cool down for about 10 minutes while another shooter got zeroed.

round 1 at 100 zero on scope HIT 1.5 inches high

round 2 at 200 zero on scope HIT dead center (DC)

round 3 at 300 2 MOA up on HIT dead center (DC)

round 4 at 400 4.25 MOA up HIT 2 inches high of DC

round 5 at 500 7.25 MOA up HIT 3 inches left of DC

round 6 at 600 10.25 MOA up MISS 3 inches over target

round 7 at 600 9.25 MOA up HIT

The gun just rocked out to 600 yards and the only miss was a wrong come up based in IPhone data.

Now I am dying to get out there a ring some steel myself. I met a guy at a gun show this weekend that has a 1000 yard plate permanently set up and he invited me out. If all goes well and work does not get in the way, I am going out there Wednesday afternoon and see if I can hit a 24 gong at 1000 yds. I have never fired a round at anything that far.

Any suggestions on come at 1000 zeroed at 200? My droid ap says 25.25 MOA up. Sound right??

Thanks Woody for building such a sweet rifle.

Re: Range Report X-Ring Accuracy 300 WM

Man that rifle is nice. I keep telling myself that my first bolt build will be a 300wm and I think I'm sticking with it. Love the .308 but will keep it to the AR10 platform.
Whats the contour of that barrel. I think the MTU contour will be on mine though. I want it heavy.

Also get that bolt fluted...that would look great.

Re: Range Report X-Ring Accuracy 300 WM

Knowing the Density/Altitude will be helpful. It makes a difference shooting at 1Kyds.

25.25moa @1K...... that sounds close but my guess you'll need another 1-2moa. But again, dependa on the actual D/A.

Follow up.

Got out today with friend on the 1000 yard invite. When we got out there it was 95 degrees at 11:00 AM and no shade. We moved back about 100 more yards and found a shady spot.

Ranged it at 1105 yards. I have never fired a round over 600 and this was my first time on the gun since Woody put the brake on and th S&B went on. Wind gusty 10-15 from the 2 and 3.

Program said zeroed at 200 up 29.25 MOA and right 8 MOA.

Set up 30 MOA up and 8 right So much mirage I shot on 15X just so I could focus on the target which was a 24" round gong.

First round looked good up and down, but hit 2-3 feet right. Dropped back to 5 MOA right and fired second round. Spotter said still a little right. Dropped back to 3 MOA right and fired round 3 HIT!! a little high and right. Fired round 4 with just a little hold off and HIT!! high and slightly left. Fired round 5 and HIT! barely on edge of target left.

Recoil mgmt was excellent with the Badger FTE brake. Rifle was a dream to shoot. First time to shoot more than 600.

Fired 5 rounds at 1100 and hit 3 of 3 after come ups were established. I look forward to the next time out.

Thanks again Woody.

Re: Range Report X-Ring Accuracy 300 WM

Nice shooting and a great looking rig. What scope rail did you go with for the 300 WM? I'm in the beginning phases of putting together a 300 WM, and was wondering what rail to get. Thanks, CKruse

Re: Range Report X-Ring Accuracy 300 WM

Thanks for the range report Stan and I am happy you like your 300 Win Mag. If you ever get to Fla there is a 1000 yd range right around the corner from my house. If there is anything you need in the future let me know. Best wishes and happy shooting.

Re: Range Report X-Ring Accuracy 300 WM

Woody you read my mind, the recoil is moe than a 308 and very similar to a 30-06. Before it was braked and about 2 1/5 pounds worth of Badger rings, Badger FTE brake and S & B scope were added, recoil was "STIFF".

Rifle now weighs in at 14.75 pounds and quite pleasent to shoot.

On the first range test out to 600, my son and his buddy were using the "bullet drop" Iphone ap. I have a Droid X and downloaded a free copy of "Strelok" ballistic calculator and to my surprise it was more accurate.

Specs on rifle for thse who asked questions about it in their posts.

New Rem 700 LA blueprinted and trued
OS recoil lug
Benchmark SS barrel, fluted 1:11 twist with "Sendero" contour
EGW 20 MOA extended rail
McMillan A5 adjustable stock swirl 75% black 25% OD green
tactical bolt knob
Badger 34 mm rings
Badger FTW muzzle brake
Schmidt & Bender 5-25X56 1/4 MOA P4F reticle

This is what the target looked like from 1100 yards. The rifle is aimed directly at target. BTW, I think we might be able to make a "MILE" shot at this location. THINKING BIG

The small tree left of center was at 800 yards and the 24" gong is to the right of that. You can't even see the target in the picture, but if you zoom in you can see a fuzzy black object and that is it

I know this might be "chip Shot" for a lot of you guys here, but man I was just really pumped to hit something this size at that distance.

Thanks for all the positive comments about the rifle. As another guy said to me here when I was looking for my first tactical LR rifle "Woody builds them right".
