Range Report Ranges near Cincinnati ?

I live in southeastern Indiana and would love to find one myself within a reasonable drive. Those that exist have either ridiculous membership waits or make you jump through 'hoops' just to try and become a member. There was one that was practically new in Jefferson County Indiana (near Madison) which was completely open to the public. Unfortunately it was closed down because the sheeple neighbors got up a petition and the democratic county judge issued a cease and desist order which has been under appeal for like the last 9 months.

Hopefully his order can get over turned and it can reopen... It was supposed to be either 600 or 800 if I remember correctly.

Ya I saw that one online. Im just tired of shooting indoors at 25 yards with my bolt action rifle....no fun

It is well worth the drive. Unfortunately I don’t know if another one near there. My family is there and that’s where I got to shoot if I do when I’m up there

Well I guess I will try it out. Also I’m kind of new to the precision world. I was a designated marksman in the Army but does anyone know how to start getting in competitions ?

Every third Sunday of the month Miami Rifle and Pistol Club has an open 600 yard practice shoot. Look in their calendar for Navy/600 yd prone. That's a good intro to NRA-style prone shooting on paper bullseye targets.

However, Miami Rifle & Pistol has several significant drawbacks:
  1. It's members only. If you're not a member, and are not invited by one, you're limited to their scheduled shoots and matches which are open to the public
  2. There is a years-long membership wait list
  3. Absolutely no steel targets allowed on any of their rifle ranges
  4. Their rifle matches are strictly per NRA or IBS rules on paper targets. Zero PRS action at that club. They would shit a brick if anyone proposed it.

I used to belong and let my membership expire because I found I could hardly every use the ranges for what I wanted, outside of scheduled events.

You're better off driving to Rayner's Range (south of Zanesville) or Thunder Valley.

Thank you, that was helpful. The only thing that worries me about the competitions is i use a 308. Its just what i like and really can afford ha. If I try to get in comps with that am I most likely going to get owned ?

When you start out in any shooting sport, you're going to get owned NO MATTER what caliber you shoot or how expensive your gear is.

Skill trumps gear. And you have to compete to learn what your weaknesses are. Swallow your pride, and don't let fear of failure interfere with your learning.

Rayner's Range. 10908 Rayner Lane, Blue Rock, OH 43720. (740) 674-7019. Good people. Friendly. Out in the "sticks". They have shooting benches but no overhead. Use a GPS. Be sure to call to make arrangements with them.
