I am looking at potentially purchasing a lightly used RUM barrel for my Aero M5 build. It’s 18”.

Hoping to get some feedback from those who’ve purchased one fairly recently. Or at least the mod 2.

I did search the forums, but didn’t see anything newer than 2023-24.

Thank you!

I have a 20" .308 Ultra Match on my single and only large frame AR. I have not shot it a ton, but it has been moa thus far with match ammo. I paired it with a JP bolt as that is what Rainer uses/offers with the barrel/head spaced bolt combo.

Thanks @Redlion. I have a JP bolt as well.

I’m struggling with my large frame because in one mag of fgmm, I’ll put 2-3 literally through the same hole, 2-3 more in a 2” paster, then the other 2-3 will be an inch outside of the paster in various directions.

It’s frustrating as heck. Especially when I can use a small frame 13.7” barreled 556 gun with a LPVO and almost carelessly put all 10 rounds in the 2” paster.

Many people refuse to buy from Rainier because they willingly gave up purchase info to the govt a couple of years ago.
I was eyeballing umatch mod-2 20" wylde, but, the one I want is never in stock, price got way too high, and, many say the Proof SS is a better item.

I cannot convince anyone what to do, just throwing out my 2c.

Not sure if you have any different uppers or handguards to try out but sometimes that helps. If you’re inclined you could also try squaring the receiver face then shim/bed the barrel (see the thread that was recently bumped on this topic for best practices).

Thank you for the info and link. I am considering doing some work on the upper when I get my barrel.

I know I have to be realistic, but I really want to maximize what this gun can do so I can trust it to maximize what I can do with it.

You’re welcome! Im still learning the nuances of building precision AR’s but from my experience and research if your gun starts to open up when its hot or throws random fliers it prob could benefit from lapping the receiver face, bedding the barrel, etc..
