Just a reminder that next Sunday the 25th will be Rayners rifle match. Cost is still a whopping $10. Sign up begins at 9am, head up to the first position(s) around 9:30, shooting begins at 10am.

Top of the hill should be open and there are now two positions up there. We'll break into two groups and each position will support two shooters at a time.

Hope to see all the usual suspects and a couple new faces there.

Re: Rayners April long range rifle match

Top of the hill is open and will be shot next weekend. I took a peek today at the pistol match. Might even have some new wind flags up as well. Here's a link with schedule and other info. if you haven't been there yet. http://www.raynersrange.com/

In case anybody hadn't seen it, oneeyedmac has a thread in the member link up forum for a day of shooting at Rayner's on May 2nd.

I'll be there if I get the parts to fix my press in time. Broke last night in the middle of sizing brass. No, I will be there one way or another.

Hi Guys, Just curious on the course of fire for your long range rifle matches? How many shooter? How long do the matches last? If anyone has any range or match pictures, send me a message. I'll give you an e-mail address. Thanks!

There are 4 positions with 2 targets each. You get 3 shots at each target and points are awarded for each hit. Some stations have different size targets worth varying points depending on how lucky you feel. I'd expect to see 30-40 shooters with a wide variety of equipment. The group will be divided into 2 squads. We'll shoot the first 2 stations, break for lunch, and then finish up. There will be a concession stand with hot sandwiches, pop, gatorade, chips, pie, etc. Make plans to be there all day as it's typically late afternoon by the time the match is done.

Re: Rayners April long range rifle match

What forecast are you looking at? This is the one I found and you need a lot of wish full thinking to stay dry...... Mostly cloudy with a chance of thunderstorms. A chance of showers in the morning...then showers likely in the afternoon. Highs in the lower 70s. Southwest winds around 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph. Chance of rain 60 percent.

Not that it matters I'll be there wet or dry

The constant wind doesn't bother me but the gusts doesn't give me a warm and fuzy with the longer shots.

Re: Rayners April long range rifle match

Another great time at Rayners. 34 of us nuts were there despite the hail storm (that I hope someone got pics of). The freshly painted targets looked like BIG oranges.

Thanks again Tom. See ya on May 2nd to do it all again.

That wasn't so bad, now was it? What .... 10 minutes of storm and the rest of the day was perfect. Anyone that stayed home due to the weather missed out on a pretty nice day of shooting. I noticed a few new faces, so word is apparently getting around. See you all next week, month, or whenever.

Re: Rayners April long range rifle match

Yup, had another great day. Mostly sunshine and quite a few new faces. Seems like everyone had a great time shooting, spotting and making up excuses about our misses. Nice assortment of shooting sticks to drool over although most are too long to stuff in a glove box.

I'm glad that one close lighning hit decided a tree in the woods was a better target then the canopy we were holding down. Been a few less shooters to spot for otherwise.

I got to spot for quite a few shooters today and wanted to say that even with the misses I didn't see any bad shots. Mostly just a few wrong guesses on wind hold or slight elevation changes. A few that will remain unnamed decided to not check settings on their scopes or turn them the wrong way to give the rest of us a chance. I think everyone should give themselves a pat on the back for some great shooting, sometimes the scores don't reflect so many very close misses.

Re: Rayners April long range rifle match

Yeah close misses was all me, and I'll be the first to admit the wind on this coarse kicked my butt. Every miss from the spotter was "elevation correct, miss XXXXX." But that's part of the game.

Thanks again for a good shoot,
Merritt

All target distances are known (200 -900). No movers. You can contact Tom and shoot on a day that nothing is scheduled to gather data. I think he charges $10 for use of the range. There will be a few shooters there next Sunday on May 2nd for an informal day at the range if you are interested.

Re: Rayners April long range rifle match

These pictures don't show the real storm because I couldn't see anything from the car. To the guys that held the canopies down during the storm, You are good people.

I'll second that.

Those canopies may not last too much longer. I noticed one of them is broken in a couple of spots.

Re: Rayners April long range rifle match

Thank you Tom for the hospitality and to Mrs Rayner for the great food. The match on Apr 25th was my first. It was amazing. I am now hooked. The storm was fun too. Keep up the great work.

Re: Rayners April long range rifle match

Nice pictures Breeze ,I think a great time was had by all, despite alittle storm and some fine shooting happen along the way. Congrats to my Pistol Pard Topstrap,he put on quite a show !!!

Re: Rayners April long range rifle match

Thanks, I have a good pard to learn with. All that practice and effort might be paying off. I'm always paying attention to others and what they are doing and saying even though it may look like I'm staring off into space somewhere.

Re: Rayners April long range rifle match

One last thank you. I really appreciated the spotters. A good shooter(sniper) is only as good as his spotter. Thanks to all that spotted and volunteered to spot. It was greatly appreciated by me. Thanks guys.
