Rayners final long range steel plate match has come and gone. Been a fun summer with some exceptional scores shot. I believe the average amount of entries is near 80 for each match. Got to meet a lot of new shooters and saw a lot of shooters improve as the season progressed. The matches have always been very challenging and the scores are nowhere near getting near a perfect match yet but that elusive 400 is now history with quite a few shooters reaching this score.
It was windy both days but I heard the wind was worse on Saturday with higher wind speed but sometimes I think the calmer days where it's shifting back and forth and dying off between shots makes for a really tough day also. Always tough at Rayners due to the wind shooting up thru the valleys and around the tree lines, frustrating but that's just part of the game, learn to live with it and eventually it'll get to be your turn to get off your three shots before it changes on you.
On to the scores, congratulations to Joe and his 415. Not sure if that will get him up near Dave Moore for the high average but he shot really well this year and was last years winner with high average. Looking down thru the scores, they really don't reflect the abilities of the shooters. With the multiple size targets worth various point values it's really easy to gamble on the smaller ones and a slight puff of wind will result in a miss. Lady Luck sometimes smiles and gives you time for three shots but other times just laughs at you. I wouldn't want any of these shooters sending rounds my direction, plan next year to come on down if you've never tried Rayners. Great group of shooters to spend the day with and you'll learn more shooting with these shooters than you'll pick up shooting months or even years on your own.
