Another great turnout for the long range steel plate match. I think 59 shooters showed up to ring some steel. I don't think we got the wind that could of showed up but enough to keep it very challenging with it changing constantly while just shooting our 3 shots at each target.

Not as many 300s shot this month so that shows it was a bit tougher conditions than last month. I had another dismal month but my son is still doing fine with his long range pistol. Not sure if it's been done yet by a rifle but he sure smoked that 650/720 yard stage. Even with the wind he got all 3 15 point targets at 650 and all 3 at 720. He started off the match going for all small high point value targets and easily could of added another 50 to 60 points to his score just hitting the bigger easy ones at the closer distances. He actually got more points on top of the hill on the long distant targets than the closer targets on the bottom section. Good job Chris, maybe you'll see that 300 next month.

Congratulations to Dan for winning another match. Another highlight of the match was seeing Lawrence Leaman hitting the 900 yard plate with an open sighted 7x57 using cast bullets. Took awhile to get there but hearing that distant ding sure made the day for everyone watching him do it.

Only a couple more matches to go before it's all over. Hate to see the season nearing it's end but it's been a fun year so far seeing so many new shooters show up and see them improve at each match. Those rifle guys are getting it figured out but at least my son is doing his part with our long range pistols to keep us in the hunt. I'll have to see what he'll charge me for lessons since I seem to have forgotten how to do it this year

Re: Rayners Match Scores August 28th 2011

Does anyone know this Dave Arbenz that is always towards the top of your matches? The reasaon I ask is because I used to have an 8th grade English teacher named Dave Arbenz. He would be retired now, but he used to be my neighbor long ago. I think he lives in St.Clairsville now. He would be in his 60's now. His son and I were friends in grade school. Anyone now if this could be the same guy?

Re: Rayners Match Scores August 28th 2011

I'd been wondering for months if this was the Dave I knew. He was a hell of a good English teacher and he seems to be a hell of a good shooter too. It's funny to come across him again like this. What a coincidence it is, to find out after all these years, we share the same hobby.
